Session 19: Jack Bastide, Building Relationships on Twitter
- Use twitter to meet people you don’t know, not just to communicate with those you already know
- Twitter isn’t for telling people you’re walking your dog or eating pizza (it’s not?!)
- Been on Twitter since Sept 08 and has reached 27K followers in just 6 mos. Doesn’t follow “twitter snobs” -only about two-way communication
- Treat your interactions like you are having coffee at your house together. (Picturing Jack having coffee every Monday with all his 27K followers)
- Make it a point of finding a few new people each day to really connect with on twitter
- Yes, he was actively tweeting just one hour post-surgery from out an out-patient surgery
- Don’t talk politics on twitter — you will always anger 1/2 of your peeps. And don’t ever argue on twitter — just block
- 99.9% of the people you meet on twitter are simply awesome
- Think of twitter as a cocktail party — would you wear a big sign around your neck with your website on it to a party? Build relationships, don’t just send out blasts about your business.
- Guess what? To build the relationship, you can take it off of twitter — phone, in person, etc.
